Where to begin! There is Nothing exceptional about this school.
classes are too big,not enough help for students who are struggling, they only care about the few top performing students, the rest get left behind.Teachers are mediocre at best, they lack high quality teaching abilities
Bullying is rampant
lots of low class individuals here
The only thing this school has going for it is the sports programs. Rather put your kids in private school for what you end up paying in fees
I was lucky enough to spend seven years at Wynberg (grade 6-grade 12). Being at the high school was a fantastic experience! The focus is not only on building academic excellence but also on allowing learners to flourish in a variety of areas through all of their four pillars (academic, culture, service and sport). There definitely was something for every type of human. The motto and core values of the school allowed me to enter adult life prepared and laid the foundations for me to be a confident South African woman
Wynberg Girls High School is a place of inclusivity, learning and a well developed eco and socially value based school. The school offers immense amount of extra curricular activities in the sport, service, culture and the academic pillars. The academic standard prepares you well for the outside world leaving you sure that you can conquer whatever you put your mind to. Wynberg Girls offers the experience in leadership preparing the learners with experiences that prepare them for leadership in a changing and challenging world. The sisterhood and tutor group dynamic is welcoming and helps you learn things about your peers, teachers and the school. Overall Wynberg Girls High School is an exceptional and well respected school.
I would recommend Wynberg Girls' High. The tutor group system is a great way to build sisterhood among the learners. A school where you are accepted for who you are. Lots of opportunities are available - if you are willing to grab hold of them. A wide variety of sports, culture and service activities. Academics are phenomenal and prepare you well for life. I found the jump to adjusting to university was possible thanks to the education I had the privilege to receive at Wynberg. Computer facilities are well resourced. Even Web Design, Flying and Coding with Drones and Spheros (Robotics) and Esports are offered. During break time, I enjoyed being able to sit with friends and eat lunch around such a beautiful campus.
When I was at this school, there was a different principle. So keep in mind, things apparently have gotten better. But for me, they seemed to idolise the top 30 in the grade and prioritised them the most. I remember there was a really cool camp and only the top 30 were invited.
My mental health was terrible and I remember they would give detention for the dumbest reasons. I got detention once for drinking water in an exam.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this school to anyone. The sisterhood was nice and the sport is good if you’re into that - but overall, my experience was shocking. Not to mention that one of the teachers is a massive bully and thrives in picking on people who are about a third of her age.
