I had a Very bad experience at my last year of school, metric, at Westville Boys' High School, even though grade 8 to 11 was quite good, my metric year was miserable. I did have my moments as a teenager of being troublesome but not to the extent of being hated, suspended or overall problematic to the school, I just got tired and I hated being at school and didn't want to do my school work, in my defense I fell into depression at the wrong time.
But during that time too I saw the problems that were simmering in the dark from this school. The students themselves I can forgive from being troublesome, teenagers will be teenagers, what disappointed me was the staff members.
The school itself mistreat it employees they do not know how to handle problems tactfully and sensibly. I had some really good coaches and teachers, but some of them not so good. In terms of education you can get a good one from hear, and sports are great, but the staff members some of them normalize a bad language, being grumpy and petty shouting (not properly disciplining).
Being a black student is hard at this school, you get the most attention, you get analyzed and they gossip about you too much of whether you are a bad or good student. Some teachers intentionally try to kick the black students out of their classrooms, they seek an excuse to make it seem like you the problem, they capitalize on your mistakes to protect themselves from how they are mistreating you, it is complete ignorance. Some staff members do not know how to discipline properly, they use bad language.
This was my personal experience I had a teacher call me a lopey... whatever that means, and yes lopey not loopey from asking a question, but he wasn't so bad though very childish for his age and his disciplining is very poor, they was a time where we were doing our final exams obviously they say don't talk until you out of the final exam venue but after we done writing as he was collecting the papers he was talking with the students but at the same time telling the students you are not supposed to be talking but he's starting it, Very weird. I had a teacher flirt with a student, but she also wasn't so bad I quite liked her. I had a teacher throw some of my trials exam papers on the floor right in front of the classroom for failing his subject his said I made him look bad, his teaching was good but what he did not understand was my misfortune and being underprivileged, coming from a township school and not getting a good primary education, I could fairly understand English, my listening skills were terrible, I couldn't read and my English wasn't so fluent, he did not know that about me and maybe he didn't even care cause that didn't stop him from mistreating me from failing his classroom, he tried to help later on but I still couldn't understand. He called me a dopey (which means idiotic), and he also blurted out a racist comment about the ANC president while he was teaching, he tried to make it up in another lesson by talking about a black grass cutter or garden cutter whom he somehow knows who doesn't have a metric and now he is cutting grass or gardens, I don't know how this guy got this job but he is terrible, overt racist, he holds grudges against his students capitilze on them making mistakes and horribly embarrasses them and mistreat them instead of disciplining properly, he is horrible I wouldn't be surprised if he get in a fight with one of his students, that might be your child at that school and he will give a reason or reasons for doing so for sure, but it still doesn't change how cruel of a person he is, he might even shoot your kid who knows, just be careful around him he teaches accounting. I also had an overt racist coach who didn't want to talk to his black players dropped them to B team if he gets a chance and also mistreated one of the black coaches or staff members, he was definitely racist.
I didn't like my experience at this school, I think they could do better, but you can't expect much from a public school, if my parents had money they would have taken me to a private catholic school, I got in this school on a desperate scholarship, and personally I recommend you take your kids to a private Christian or catholic school maybe they might have a better experience than at a school were they're is a teacher who would almost fight your teenage kid and mistreat them for a misdemeanor, who also happens to be an overt racist.
I have two sons, one has matriculated and one is currently at Westville Boys’ High School.
Both have found their place and purpose from being at this school. One excelled in sport, the other in academics and performing arts. There is a place for every boy at the School whether it’s academics, sport, cultural or service.
Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Overall I give this school a poor rating.
