Administration decision making needs serious readjusments
The way the administration handles its decision-making needs serious readjustment. Decisions are based on how the principal is feeling from one day to the next. I was called in to discuss a matter regarding my child. The principal advised me on the day that the child will not be suspended, after me asking if there are any consequences to the alleged claims. The following day he calls me to tell me the child is suspended for their own safety, but cannot further explain to me what this means. I then asked him what has changed from the previous day's decision, and he proceeds to tell me that he had a lot going on the previous day and could not process all of the information and had since had time to think about, and again mentioned for the child's safety decided suspension is the best and became dismissive when I asked further questions and gave the telephone number of his current manager. I'm sitting left confused I don't understand how this is the school's procedure and how they handle these sorts of cases.
People vry in the labs. do drugs. also fight alot. the teachers don't always do their job. they are slow and sloppy. the headmaster doesn't do anything about school problems. and ** ********* ****** badly at children almost hitting them. stay away from this school i just matriculated and I'm relieved to be done
Let's just start off with the bad then we'll get to the good. Academics aren't THE BEST, and that's not necessarily a bad thing, the school lays a good foundation for tertiary education, not excellent but good. But what makes this school very very very unique is, is the way it prioritises social interactions and people skills. You can clearly see who's a Tygerberg learner when they leave, even if they weren't on a leadership pedestal, they are excellent leaders, communicators and overall people's persons. They put big emphasis on participation, which I'll admit did not feel comforting at the beginning yet it is crucial for growth and development. Tygerberg is also one of the very few schools where EVERY person from any background is accepted, whether it be based on race, gender, sexuality, nationality, etc. If you want your child to just develop their academic skills, then this is not the school. Tygerberg is there to prioritise social skills, develop leaders and lay a good academic foundation (excellent when used correctly) for further studies.
The atmosphere at Highschool Tygerberg is amazing. The school is by far the best highschool I've been to including one of the Western Capes top schools such as Jan van Riebeeck Highschool. The friendly teachers that give their best to our school make it worth going every day. Although there are some aspects the school can give more attention to such as more cameras and more seating for intervals, the school is over all a very good school. The school has great educational benefits for your children and all the kids are being groomed into loving your neighbors as thy self. We are all a very big and tight-knit family with a lot of spirit. Every year we lose MTBS but every year we try again and with more spirit than the last. Over all if I can give my opinion I will definitely send your child to our school. It's a place where life long bonds are formed.
The school is very clean, but most of the students and teachers makes it unpleasant, some of the teachers doesn't treat everyone the same. And the saddest part is that most of the students do as they want.i heard that school has a lot of bad influence, they smoke weed on the school grounds and most of the teachers does nothing about the situation, they have let a student repeat the same grade 3 times. Most of the students be having sexual activity under age during school time in the boys bartroom. The labs has zero cameras. So anything can happen without anyone nowing.
I do not recommend the school because the learners including teachers are not so friendly.Their academics don’t satisfy me as there are a majority of learners that repeat the same grade for at least 3 years, meaning not only are the learners not pushing but teachers there are very demotivating.I remember last year 2019 the whole class of grade 8s failed Technology not even having 1 child passing. They always loose MTBS and other sports events which does not make me proud. My first year was not so good and I’m glad it’s my last.
I have only been at the school for a couple of months, yet it feels like years. The teachers are determined aswell as all the staff and learners. Hoërskool Tygerberg has an incredible learning atmosphere aswell as an outstanding atmosphere and spirit at sports events. There is no better school to be at. Unfortunately we are not allowed to use the field just above the quad during intervals, I think it would benefit the learners as there is not much room for sports during intervals. Overall I have to say,it is for me one of the best schools in SA, if not the whole of Africa.
My school is the best without a doubt,It is a well driven school that has taught me so nuch values, respect, honesty, obedienceand perseverence. My school is one big family. The teachers are so loving and caring and they will do anything for us.
All in all a mediocre school. Not sufficient classes for all the learners they accept, leaving teachers with 45+ in a class at times. Sport is prioritized over all other extra curricula even though they pride themselves in it not. Teachers seem to have given up, making class environment unpleasant for both students and teachers. The WCED has made it quite clear to parents that this once a good school has become the epitome of problematic.
