Save your child

Poor education and very disrespectful teachers especially Drama and LO. Bullies have gone untouched for years facing no consequences. Self-absorbed rude children and a lot of cyber bullying happens. Poor education and have very mediocre matric results. Don’t recommend whatsoever save your child from the trauma.

Not recommended

Extreme toxic environment to work in. I believe looking at a school for your child you need to look at the staff turnover. That will tell you the internal culture of the school. This school has a staff turnover of about 65% each year (if not more). That means per subject your child might have 4/5 different teachers in each subject in their high school career. Teachers are not supportive to each other - they split each other often if you are for example late for something. This school is famous for just getting rid of teachers of they do not like you. Unsupportive leadership and no compassion is what fills this school's staffroom. Teachers' timetables are 88% full (that means maybe 1 lesson for subject admin per 2 week cycle - this is also only if you are not substituting for another teacher not there). Teachers are not subject specialists, instead each teacher teaches about 2/3 different subjects - something many successful and good private schools do not do. On top of your full timetable, all the subjects you are teaching - you will also need to do an extra mural (at least 2). That means teachers are also not available in the afternoons to help learners with questions.
Also as a parent - there is no discipline structure (no consequences for learners) -other learners often posts negative (and very disrespectful) things about teachers on social media and then leadership is just silent. There was a learner that did exactly that a few years ago and she became head girl - no consequences after she badmouthed teachers on social media. Everyone (parents and learners) in the primary school knew about it as well. That is the example this school sets.
There are much better schools in the area that will look after their staff and your child better. Spend your money wisely.

Tyger Valley College

There is no sense of justice in this school. A teacher could say downright prejudice and discriminatory comments, yet instead of giving them a disciplinary hearing they will just try and sweep everything under the rug and make sure all evidence is removed.

There is also no respect and students with very disrespectful views on topics such as race, sexuality etc. do not have to be disciplined or get any warnings, instead the students who try and stand up against those views get in trouble and get told that what they are doing to stand up for themselves will ruin the school's reputation instead of trying to resolve the issue.

I highly recommend NOT enrolling your child at this school unless you really want your child to be miserable.

Bad experience

Being part of the alumni of the school, I would strongly recommend to not send your child to high school at TVC. The school was great until the new headmaster came into place and took away all the traditions of the school and completely destroyed the vibe of the school which the old alumni still remember. It is no secret that all of the high school students, parents and teachers dislike the headmaster of the school.
I would also like to add that your child will learn no respect at this school for several reasons. Namely, the students are not taught to respect the older students of the school, discipline is soft at the school and many of the previous traditions, now taken away, taught the value of respect and being humble.

I would also like to mention an issue that I feel strongly about. None of the information disclosed to the educational psychologist of the school remains private. The information is almost always shared to one of the staff members of the school and this staff member has a tendency to share this information with the parents or even sometimes with students in class - she wouldn't mention names yet still disclosed this information to her class. I have personally been in her class when this has happened.

Great School

What a lovely school. My daughter loves gong to school and loves all her teachers.
