I'm a learner at this school myself and everything is good with education and sports cause that's all they care about. They don't give a damn if ur getting bullied. I'm getting bullied for having underbite and literally people are so rude and they always have something to say and when u bring it up to someone, no one cares. If u want ur child to be happy and have a good self image and mental health, don't bring them to stellenberg I beg of u.
Please give the English Children more opportunities. No Culture. No Drama plays in English. Victimised by teachers when your child enquires. Racist school with some teachers as bullies. If you white, Afrikaans and good in sport, this is the school you will prosper. the rest take a back seat.
Racism, Favoritism, Bullying definitely exists at Stellenberg High in this 2022 still.
The cultural, genuinely Kind, Friendly English children Gets no opportunities to excel, whether it be onstage or in Leadership Roles. English classes still get taught in afrikaans eventhough its not their first language, depends what mood the teacher is in. When you address the matterm your child will be victimized. Teachers easily blames the whole class for bad behavior.
The school rules in Afrikaans. When last have you seen a drama / play done in English. The opportunities only exists for Afrikaans Kids. Sad Reality. Pray for your child's mental health attending Stellenberg High. They never feel good enough to obtain anything. Unless they are white and Afrikaans. The rest just exist and pay school fees.
Parents are shocking with remarks made to other pupils while playing sport i have never heard or witness such bad behavior from parents i will surely see and make sure this goes public and still they are on the sporting fileds every weekend doing the same.
Your crieket parents are very bad and if this dont stop i will i sure a proper investigation kids should enjoy themselfs when playing and bad mouthing other pupils from other schools should not be allowed .
Shame on your school.
Wow! What an amazing school isn’t Stellenberg. How privileged we are to be in a school that excelles in sport, academics and culture. How privileged are we to be constantly reminded that we have to look after our self before anyone else. To be constantly reminded to have fun and make memories. To be surrounded with top class teachers and management. Stellenberg really is the place to be. A school that truely offers something for everyone, even if you just need somewhere to belong.
As a current grade 10 learner of Stellenberg High School, I am extremely happy here. I've read all of the reviews written by parents and former students about Stellenberg, and I can confidently say that all of these "issues" and "problems" have been handled/are being delt with. The school has made it it's top priority to ensure that there are no homophobia, sexism, racism, etc. at the school. Obviously, it most likely never truly be solved, or not overnight atleast, but the school has really put in alot of effort to improve the environment for everyone here. Many people forget that these aren't only "problems" at Stellenberg, but in every other high school in South Africa. Stellenberg is busy trying to implement certain things into the school's code of conduct to be more enclusive and fair to the different types of students whom attend the school. Stellenberg's current motto for the year "different flames, one fire" highlights that the school consists of many different types of people, with different backgrounds, beliefs, cultures, races, talents etc. but that we can all come together and stand as one, Stellenberg High School. I've never seen a school putting in this much thought and effort to accomidate students of all types. The school and their student council, are always looking for ways to improve this school. For this year's pride month, they even had educational posters on tv's in the passages explaining the different sexualities and flags what each of them meant. Other than that, the school has many compaines run by the students, like the "Go the extra Smile" compain, which focusses on mental heath and making the people around you smile. They often hand out happy quotes, chocolates or even ice-creams to make someone's day. The school is filled with posters on how to help someone whom is having problems, like a panic attack, for example. The teachers of this school or of the highest standard. The teachers have all done a course which helps them to know how to handle certain situations even better. The school also paid for a complusory educational course on bullying, cyber bullying and online safety which everyone student had to complete. The school is also busy expanding their available activities at school, for the children whom aren't always as sport, cultural or accidemally driven. They have loads of clubs, like photography, a book club, a dance squad, a gaming club, etc. Stellenberg makes me a proud student. I love this school, the teachers, the environment, everything.
My heart is forever jade.
Awesome school. My son is now in Grade 10. He is English and not a top sportsman, but enjoys his rugby and is encouraged by the coaches. He is thriving academically and the teachers go out of their way to ensure students challenge themselves. The school has is strict when it comes to discipline and obeying the rules, which is how it should be to prep youngsters for the real world. Highly recommended.
This school is riddled with bullies, be it students or teachers. If you aren't straight, white, Afrikaans, and sport oriented don't send your child here. The Afrikaans classes get a better overall education as the teachers put in more effort and actually teach the work. If you are on the English side you might as well be home schooled.
Bullies aren't reprimanded for their behaviour. Teacher are told to rather wipe the situation under the carpet. If your child is a bully they will thrive in this school.
Between the management staff (grade heads, princip(oes)al and vice principal) they will pretend to have your child's best interest at heart but it is only to protect the schools reputation.
Connections in this school is king. Sponser a team or know someone on the board? Your child will be set.
This school puts up a great front of school pride. It's all they care about. They care more about sports and the school's image than what goes on with the students. The teachers are rude and pick on the students. There's been excessive bullying for years that they do nothing about. The teachers dote on the popular kids and treat them higher than the rest. They force the students to do excessive amount of work everyday and at home as well, not taking into account other subjects, mental health and sport activities. They don't give a damn about the student's mental health. We thought it was a great school because they present themselves so highly but it's just a facade to hide the enormous amount of issues the school has.
My friend and I both decided to leave the school because of the toxic environment. The school is basically divided into three main groups: rugby boys, pretty girls with pretty bodies, and the group of kids that always make fun of other children. I would be so scared to go to school because of my weight that I had to find places to hide so that I wouldn't be made fun of. I was constantly yelled at by a group of boys and made fun of because of how I looked and whenever I reported it nothing happened. I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone because I personally had the worst mental health coming out of that school.
Whilst the school creates a great atmosphere, and a sense of pride or “gees”, it has many issues widely addressed in other reviews and online.
If you have a child going to school for sport, specifically rugby, Stellenberg has plenty to offer. However if your child is rooted in culture, i am BEGGING you to send your child anywhere else, regardless of any claims the school itself makes. Any cultural activities have no funds and little to no people who care.
As well as racism, homophobia, and more,
The school does not address any issues no matter how many people have been hurt, and any personal problems or complaints will not be dealt with nor be taken seriously.
unless your straight white son does rugby, seriously reconsider.
Teachers discriminate alot. The sports coaches have favorites. There is racism in the school. There is bullying. There isn't a good tradition or culture. The one thing stellenberg doesn't do is turn boys into gentleman. All the boys behave horribly.
The school does have good culture and it really does try to do its best for the students but there are many problems. Bullying at the school is a massive problem. I myself have never gotten bullied but many parents that I know have told me about how their children are bullied. Knowing this, I've never once seen the school do anything about bullying. There are also certain teachers that choose favorites and that heavily discriminate against students. This is a shame as there are also many loving and caring teachers that go out of their way for the students. I have had an experience with a teacher where I was sick so I stayed home and then the teacher gave me a demerit for misbehaving, bunking class and disrupting the class, even though I had a doctor's certificate. The teacher would also openly humiliate me in class around the other students about certain things. They once asked me, "Why does your face look so ugly? You should take better care of yourself." Infront of the whole class. I actually changed subject because the teachers behavior was heavily affecting my grades. While there are only a few of the teachers that are this rude, almost all the sports coaches choose favorites and unless you're a parent with a deep enough wallet to sponsor the sports teams, your child will most probably not make first team. I myself was known by many other students as a good sports player but I never made first team because some other student, that played the same position as me, had a mom that would buy gifts for the coaches and occasionally sponsor the team. Overall, it is a good school in general but certain rotten apples in the bunch, really bring down the quality of being a student in the school. Of course, if you're a parent with a lot of money and your child is perfect in every way, they'll most probably have the best school years of their lives. Stellenberg is a good school with a lot of spirit and culture but in my opinion, if a student isn't strong willed, they won't be able to handle the rubbish parts of the school.
Not a great environment if daddy doesnt have a big paycheck . Teachers discriminate against the students based on their looks and personal life . They choose favourites . Some grade heads are even “nice” enough to give you demerits when you aren’t even at school and have a valid note from the doctor Stating you where “talking” in class or failed to comeplete your homework where in reality you were absent . A teacher even told my friends mum I’m satanic next to the netball court and that my friend shouldn’t hang out with me just because I wore too kuch black (I was Christian ) That same teacher was also my grade head and also left my sister Alone in the lobby of a hotel in a foreign country for a whole day . So if you want your child to be traumatized , ridiculed or even gossiped about by teachers send them to stellies . They will sure as hell be broken down (you know what they say “A traumatized child has a better chance at getting good grades” ) . Unless of course you sponser one of the sports teams .
It's an awesoms school! There is something for everyone! A cafeteria that has anything you can think of and there arw events around the school that everyone can participate in!
This school is amazing for many reasons: The school is clean, the teachers are good and the school has a cafeteria with something for everyone. Academically I truly believe it's one of the most spectacular schools. It is big and crowded since it is a very popular and large school, but I think the amount of pros make up for it. This school thrives in their sports and the learners are able to express their creativity in the various ways such as music, art, design, photography and drama. A good range of subjects is provided at this school and every now and then there are ways to help support charities or raise money for a cause. So if you are struggling to choose a school for you, I can guarantee you a good time at Stellenberg High.
