Great school.. my kids have been there since Grade R.
Teachers are very committed & skilled - and passionate about what they do.. which comes through in the teaching.
I appreciate the small classes and hands on approach.
Teachers are approachable when any matters of concern are raised.
My experience is from a parents point of view whose child is in the primary school. Teachers prepare students well. Personal attention is provided as classes are small in numbers.
If your child is academically strong or excels in sports then only are you noticed, motivated and pushed by the school. Currently have interactive boards but that to me is just text in colour with pictures. Students still need to write down notes, listen to the teacher, read from textbooks, try to understand what is being taught etc.How does that method engage a student who is stressing more about writing notes than absorbing the lesson.
There are some Turkish teachers and a concern is the language barrier whereby students cannot understand the English well due to the accent.
Haven’t had any major bullying concerns but the bullying policy is limited.
Lack or delayed communication with various aspects that occur. Believe in sending printed comms out and have what’s app grade groups but info does not always get passed on or not passed on in time. Better communication method should be used.
Bathrooms are not cleaned throughout the day. Students reluctant to use the bathroom facilities which is a major hygiene concern.
Facilities are not on par for what schools fees bracket they are in. Yes, there have been some external upgrades but for the benefit of certain students only.
Limited extra murals for intermediate phase. No social clubs available. Non of what I am aware of.
Don’t know if there is a PTA. There was Pre-Covid.
If you looking for smaller school- one class per grade, about 20 students in a class then this school is suitable. One major positive for me was how the school managed in Covid. Daily online classes were provided. This was the only time Google classroom was used unfortunately and it worked. It is unfortunate they don’t believe in utilizing further online facilities available.
The school has lots to improve on and should be managed better. One thing that should be implemented is the use of technology in the classroom.
Star College Bridgetown is a well established institution that displays nothing but excellence. The school atmosphere is of utmost brilliance and the education provided by the school is of exceptionally high standards. Star College aims to foster broader dimensions of learning critical to students’ overall success. Star College definitely lives up to their saying of “Excellence in Education”.
Honestly, the highschool is kinda depressing. Not much goes on outside of schoolwork. There's no school spirit and it is quite dull.
A lot of the teachers say things that are not true and they spread misinformation.
In my grade (senior phase) the students can be quite toxic, immature and not supportive.
Most students I have asked said that they would rather go to a different school and that they are only there because their parents froced them. The case is the same for me unfortunately.
The sports facilities are sub-par especially when considering the price. They barely have a suitable field.
They say it is a secular school but a lot of the teachers bring religion (usually islam) into the lessons unnecessarily and with an agenda while there are students of other religions in the class.
The school lacks in promoting free and critical thinking as they usually tell students what to think instead of letting them think for themselves.
Parents usually think that the school is so great and that there's not much wrong with but they don't have to go there 5, often sometimes 6, days a week scraping through the long insufferable hours. If they did I am certain their opinion of the school would change.
I know that in the ads and according to what people say Star College seems like a great school. However that's not exactly true to life. Yes they have good acedemics but I believe that there are other things equally as important in the development of a teenager that Star College lacks.
In short:
If your want your child to become a close minded ignorant robot, send them here.
NB: This is of course just my opinion as a student at Star College and others might have other opinions, however as a student and having spent years at the school and among other students I thought it would be beneficial to share what the school is really like for a student who goes there.
Great school. Great teachers. Child-centred learning. Safe, nurturing environment. Good co-operation between board, teachers, parents constantly working towards improving the students' learning experience.
Star college is a great academic school. If you look at the fees yearly, you would expect state of the art sport arenas and gyms but instead of that, they have brought well educated and dedicated teachers from turkey. Not saying that the local teachers are inferior in any way but the foreign teachers have a devoted spirit and attitude.
