This school disgusts me. Things have come out recently that disgust me involving sexual assault that the principle will do nothing about, but other than that here are my reviews: firstly when you ask a teacher something they will not answer you or make you feel dumb or make fun of you (explaining it to you as if you are dumb) teachers disrespect students and some teachers, I could make names but I won’t, call you useless and tell you to wake up, look in the mirror and say “good morning you ugly useless person”. the principle has no backbone and will not stand up for what is right, in this case someone has been sexually assaulting/ molesting girls as young as 10 and he says he will not do anything about it. Some Students are racist and many of them laugh and point and bully in general, nothing is done about it, people have been beat up and nothing has been done about it. There is a lot of racism towards white peoples, for example, teachers are afraid of being labled as racist when confronting a black girl so will take it out on the white students. They are very strict on rules and give detention for little things, such as nails being too long. Teachers will sometimes call you dumb and tell you to drop subjects telling you you will never achieve your dreams. In the past, that I know of, I teacher has pushed a student, they force non Christian girls to sing Christian songs and attend chapel. If you have not brought swim clothes, in the past people were forced to swim in uniform. Certain teachers spend periods preaching on things instead of teaching and end up giving tons of homework and making things self study, some teachers give activities and sit and do nothing while things become self study for children. Teachers have obvious favourites and treat them as such. Certain teachers marked accordingly to favourites. In conclusion this is a terrible school and you should avoid going here under any conditions.
As a former student, I feel an obligation to notify both parents, students and potential students that what the school projects to the public and the reality of what happens are polar ideas. There is a great deal of miscommunication between students and teachers along with special treatment towards certain students most commonly involving either race or marks or because of contributions by parents (monetary or other) Most teachers leave the students to do whatever they want then complain to parents that their children aren't working or focusing. One of the most prominent issues I had while at SMS was the hair issue. Students with sleeker hair that died their hair were left to their vices. Hairpiece and extensions are supposed to the students' hair color but even that has become an issue among the teachers. The racial ratio of teachers is dominantly white while the students are dominantly black, which has also caused cultural conflicts as well as racial disparities. Certain criteria (dominantly from white cultures) is shoved down the throats of students and forces them to conform to what the school deems acceptable. The school claims to be diverse but shows little acceptance towards it.
Teachers are also unable to satisfy the bullying problem. Many students with older sisters turn to their sister to handle the situation. Older sisters then bully the bully. When teachers are told about bullying, they call the bully in and tell them not to bully. A useless tactic because girls don't stop. Student behaviour is monitored through a merit and demerit system. The administrator in charge of this system doesn't keep track of when or how merits/demerits are awarded. I once received 30 demerits which meant I had to go to detention. To this day I still don't know where those demerits came from and neither does she (the administrator)
The school is an Anglican school but accepts students of all religions. The downfall is that the Reverend pushes non-Christians and non-Anglicans to convert. No religious items may be worn with the school uniform, which is fine. The problem is that some of the students wear rosaries and when I wore an Irish rosary - a type of ring which I kept on a chain - it was confiscated because it was not an Anglican item; it was Catholic. Teachers also claim to be open
and say students are welcome to talk to them about anthing however students that are LGBTQI+ are ridiculed in staff meetings
Be careful; not everything is what it seems in this school.
