The SA boy's private school tiers (based on Academics, Sports, History, Prestige, Selectiviness etc) are:
Tier 1: Bishops, Hilton, Michaelhouse, St John's, St Stithians, St Andrew's, Kearsney, St Albans.
Tier 2: Clifton, St Benedicts, St David's etc.
You can't really go wrong with Tier 1 or 2 schools
Among the Tier 1 schools, St John's is one of the more academic and cultural of the lot. It is also very diverse and inclusive, on an architecturally magnificent campus setting.
If your kid is more academic, arts & culturally inclined, and more on the taciturn side then SJC is probably the best culture fit. A place like Saints will be too overwhelming.
An exceptional school in terms of academics, drama, art and music. Also decent at sport but tends to overfixate on rugby and disregards other sports. Traditional christian education which isn't appealing to all.
Great school. Overall a great experience and the change that is happening is focusing on creating a future where St. John’s is an all inclusive community. The changes in the leadership system are there to make grade 8 a positive experience for the new boys.
One of Joburgs most well known and classic boy schools. It's a priveligied school in all regards, with very traditional values. The prefects had in my opinion way too much influence and resposnibilites bullying and comeraderies, which led to an awkward vibe.
And yes, you have to go to chapel some mornings.
