I would like to inform all the parents that all the teachers at this school are lazy. As soon as it’s 2:30… they lock the gates and leave all the students from grade 1-7 on the side of the street without any adult supervision. The other day I picked up my son from the school at 3 pm and I even saw small children that looked no older than 4/5 years old and it seems that they have came from the nursery school. The teachers apparently have to stay on premises until 4, so there is no excuse… I see all the teachers cars still on the premises while all the learners are sitting outside in the dangerous streets of edenvale. Once the child has been dropped off at the school, it will be the school’s responsibility for the children’s safety until the child is picked up from a designated adult. The schools duty of care towards students start in the morning and ends when the last student has left the premises and has transferred the responsibility to an adult. At the end of the day, the students who are left on the premises cannot be considered to have “gone home”( this is said by teachers to signal the end of the duty of care ). This school does not even have a functioning tuck shop for the children nor do they have after school care facilities for the parents that cannot fetch their child at 2pm. Students who are enrolled or not enrolled in after school facilities are still considered on premises, meaning that the school is responsible for the children’s safety. The teachers are fully aware that the students are left on the side of the road right near a busy main road as I’ve seen teachers leave the premises and look at the learners sitting on the pavement and drive away. If the school knows the students are on premises, no matter the reason why, then a relationship has been established and it can be argued that the school has a duty of care for these students. This duty of care is not time- limited and so the school could be held liable for accidents that occur outside of school hours. Therefore the school need to carefully consider their supervision before school hours in order to properly discharge their duty of care. The school should atleast provide an after school care facility for a little extra charge so it provides parents with security that their children are not left on the side of the road for them to be kidnapped or put in danger.
The teachers are lazy and the school is trying to cut costs where ever it is possible and this unfortunately has lead to the school putting your children in danger.
The school sport facilities are also horrible as all the children has mismatched kits and they look very untidy. This school needs to pull up its socks regarding the schools image and safety of the learners.
Tried contacting this school 15 times and no answer??? Does anyone work there. There was an incident with my nephew at school, so if you cannot watch the phone I’m wondering how you will be available to watch over our children??
They have really nice teachers although the grade 6 Afrikaans 2nd language teacher according to my child "can't speak Afrikaans to save her life, can speak broken English and Zulu" I think they could do something about the break down play grounds such as put up shade on the rugby field and something the girls can sit on other then the sandy ground. Other then that teachers such as Ms Jordan, Ms black and Mr Steffans are really nice.
