DON'T SEND YOUR KIDS TO THIS SCHOOL. That school is falling. Half of the teachers don't teach and some of them teach like they bought their qualifications. The teachers are very negative and demotivating. The board of the school is full of Old people, who sleep during parents meeting. Learners have to teach themselves half of the year's syllabus for ALL SUBJECTS within THREE WEEKS. The school's communication is VERY poor.
I HATE IONA CONVENT MORE THAN I HATE MYSELF!!!!!!!!
THE SCHOOL SUCKS THIS IS WHY MOST OF TE STUDENTS AE LEAVING OR WANT TO LEAVE. WHATEVER IS SAID OF THE CHOOL WEBSITES IS BULLPOOOP , THE SCOOL OFFERS NOTHING AND IF YOU LOVE YOUR CHILD YOU WOULDNT EVEN ARE TO BRING THEM HERE PASS RATE MEANS NOTHUNG IF THE SCHOOL ILL TREATS THE STUDENTS AND DONT LISTEN TO THEM. THE TEACHERS ARE RACIST AND SADISTIC AND MOST OF ALL RUDE.. NOT ONLY TO THE STDENTS BUT ALSO TO THE PARENTS.
!!!WARNING!!!
DONT BRING YOUR CHLD TO IONA
Iona is the worst school ever! The principal Mrs Lisel Kyle is abusing the 2023 Gr 6's she puts them in the sun and does not care. She threatens to rip their hearts out and cut them then and feed it to the dogs.Mrs Nicole Boysen hates the Gr6's
Don't go to Iona it's hell
I wouldn't recommend this school to ur daughter, it's very judgeful, yesterday a teacher body shamed a student and other students, when u ask for assistance they shout at u and say "I'm not supposed to be spoon feeding you guy" I really do not recommend this school.
Great school. Iona is not for everyone, but if you want your child to learn self discipline and get a great matric, this is the place for you. Awesome teachers who go the extra mile.
Am a grade 10 parent and so far the school is great. Academics and discipline are number priority. My daughter was not strong at primary which was from another school but when she joined Iona her average went from just passing to 80+ , which is consistent. Her maths was average and when she started Iona it skyrocketed to 80+ up until grade 10 and I pray it stays the same. Working at a university myself I know how imperative it is for a child to have good marks . Her English improved so much and it is important for our kids to pass it with good marks. The teachers and admin are friendly.I think what the school can improve in bringing back the sport . My daughter was very good in it and now am forced to pay extra outside for her to do some sport. Swimming more for seniors will also be good.
Don't let them fool you, this school is the worst school u can ever take your child to. Yes, i admit the academics are very impressive but besides that everything in that school is not on a right level now they are telling our children that"your hair looks horrible" your dreads are too long" "you need to cut" "your afro is too big, push it back or do cornrows or tie it tighter" "your bun is untidy make it neater" this is unacceptable. Today a learner had to cut her braids to make them look shorter worst part she cut them at school . Iona is just full of racism. I wouldn't recommend to take your child to this school.
Iona is the worst school ever. The principal does not take students complaints seriously! They only take matters seriously if parents are involved. The school does not take racism seriously. Some teachers at Iona body shame other students and think nothing of it. The teachers cannot hide their favouritism, they only seem to like the advanced scholars in the class, not thinking about how the rest of the scholars feel. Sometimes if you don’t understand the work, the teacher ignores you but will only help the advanced students. The teachers purposely broadcast other children’s marks to embarrass them in front of the whole class. The teachers are against the LGBTQ+, I know not everyone supports it but they tend to make homophobic jokes in class, making an example with the students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. The teachers make death threats in class. These kind of comments make the students feel uncomfortable when they are with these specific teachers. Students go to the social worker and tell her their problems out of comfort then the social worker tells the other teachers about the student’s problems. When students tell teachers about their medical conditions, the teachers make jokes out of the students conditions. And also on the school websites they name countless sports and extra murals that don’t even exist. At the school science lab we have so much equipment that we don’t even use. The teachers just take pictures with the equipment to put it on social media to persuade more students to come to Iona. There is a teacher that does not even wear a mask yet she coughs all day. Some of the teachers even make offensive jokes regarding our parents.
As a former student myself I can tell you that Iona is the best school for your daughter. Academics are beyond excellent, sport can be better. Environment feels really safe and it tidy.
People who are crying about lack of diversity have themselves to blame. They went to a Christian school with Christian ethos and when they have to abide, they cry lack of diversity. It's a religious school, while it accepts all religions, it follows its religion. Christiaity/catholic and thus, not everything is acceptable. I think that's fair.
In my opinion the only thing that’s good about Iona is the academics but overall it’s honestly the worst school you could ever take your daughter to. Iona Convent does not encourage diversity amongst students not to mention the teachers. I don’t know where they are finding their teachers from because some of these teachers don’t even know how to speak English properly. It’s honestly just upsetting. You could literally take your child to a public school and they’ll receive the same education they are receiving at Iona…for that price?? It even makes use of false advertising to draw in parents. Their website mentions activities such as Tennis, Hockey, Netball, Choir, Basketball and swimming yet the sports teacher is not even Qualified to teach swimming so taking your daughter there would be a waste of money because the extra money that’s being paid for activities will go down the drain. Iona has VERY limited subject choices soI hope you are reconsidering taking your daughter to Iona Convent because Iona can seriously ruin your daughters future because of these teachers they pick up from across the street.
There’s so much I want to say about this school but I’ll just leave it there.
I really hope this helps you get some insight of Iona
Perfect in all respect. .Teachers are excellent, education is unmatched. Matric results in the top league of the city 100 % in 2021 and excellent grades. If you are after good Education, awesome grades, safety of your child while at school and a well rounded disciplined daughter. You have found the secret "IONA CONVENT SCHOOL".
To be honest my experience in that school was terrible the moment I started I wanted to leave, they are good when it comes education, but if you want extra murals and everything like that they don’t have it at all, the swimming pool when it comes to seniors it’s useless, sometimes even to the primary, the pool has been extremely dirty for a year or so while I was attending. Then in high school for subject choices, they lack almost a lot of subjects, they only have physical science, CAT, Business, Accounting, Life science and History...Nothing else, they aren’t a lot of school trips also, the only time you get to leave that place for a day is only in grade 9 for camp and 11 just to go have mass at another school, They lack diversity over there, they do not support the LGBTQ+, phones and earphones are banned as if the students won’t use them the moment they enter their transport all the way home and also while their at home and when they sleep. That school doesn’t have a library, it says it does, but really it doesn’t, it’s a classroom that library or an empty room filled with desks and little books that are old non-updated books . When you google the school you probably get pretty pictures of the buildings which is only the front office and primary buildings, if you see children playing games it could be a very old picture...personally while I was there, I honestly felt like they could care less about the high school, mean all the money they get they spent it on the primary and senior primary, the high schoolers only have a small portion of the school while the children have the whole damn place. Their is also a shortage of staff almost one teacher could be teaching the grade 8-12 mathematics, English and so on, the school does not have a field, it used to but they removed it to expand their primary, honestly it shouldn’t have a high school it should just end at grade 7. If you’re considering entering the school, I hope you’re prepared to have a boring high school experience, with little to no fun at all and getting into trouble for the most smallest things, you can get suspended for standing on the school grounds where the gate to which your parents or transport picks you up at...I’m literally not lying to you. You should also keep in mind it’s an all girls school, and girls tend to have issues with each other for no apparent reason.
The school's education is good but they lack extra stuff that an average school has like picture day, extra murals, participations with other schools on events. They are against the LGBTQ+
