0 stars. The pupils, especially the boys, are being raised poorly because the school is misogynistic, xenophobic, racist, homophobic and more. A “Christian” school that is not Jesus-centred at all, Jesus would NOT behave this way, Jesus is love and this place is not. They do not care about important issues and prioritise their reputation over their students and their wellbeing. Even news reports which should be available are no longer public. What about the three students that mishandled a girl in their matric year and still got their certificates and wrote exams? Being at this school was the lowest point in my life. I wish I could rate it lower. Unless you’re white, straight and a boy, you will have a hard time here. Even white, straight women will find it difficult due to the culture created and encouraged amongst the boys, but make sure you think hard before going here if you aren’t white. Too much segregation. Very clear favouritism, very rigid, very clear cliques and an overall incredibly toxic environment detrimental to the students’ mental health and development. Certain students can break the absurd rules that exist for no valid reason, while others cannot. Furthermore, this is a horrid place for people with disabilities - whether mental or physical - I’ve seen a dyslexic student be denied writing their aid and another student be bullied by the teachers out of the school for their mental disorders, the grounds are not even wheelchair friendly. Very few resources for students in that regard (mental health, physical and mental disabilities, etc.) Not inclusive, very outdated and inaccessible. The school hasn’t evolved at all beyond South Africa’s apartheid era and students there have become so desensitised to the issues going on. Very few halaal and vegetarian options in regards to meals at the hostel, the diet available does not cater for everyone, and it isn’t hard to do so considering the large budget they are allocated by the department whilst still receiving fees and sponsorships because they are a public-private school and the hostel food is somehow still horrible. Not to mention room sharing and dating between different races is very discouraged. Racism is attempted to be hidden by lame euphemisms. Teachers are rude, it feels as though some teach here because there is an environment wherein it is okay to not love all students. Some teachers are not qualified and lessons are not comfortable. Most of the good teachers have left. Corporate punishment is still being used there in 2024 on a bunch of adolescents, whether they tell you so or not, and oftentimes it’s practically abuse and fear mongering. It’s very ridiculous that there can be disputes such as the ones I’ve seen between grown adults (some very, very old) and children. If you cannot understand Afrikaans, you will struggle because although a dual language school, Afrikaans is highly predominant. Ligbron, you all need to get a grip. I cannot think of a reason it would be worth going here aside from the fact that there are basically three major high schools in Ermelo. Do not believe the marketing. Consider one of the others available, boarding school or online schooling; just anywhere but here. Keep in mind that this does not even BEGIN to unpack the issues here.
I had been a student at Ligbron Academy of Technology for two years and I had a terrible, almost traumatic experience. My areas of complaint pertain to racism and xenophobia, homophobia, sexism, discrimination, ableism, lack of accommodation in several aspects, poor conflict resolution, borderline assault, hypocrisy and the amount of sexual assaulters and rapists attending and being enabled by the school as well as the lack of policies pertaining to the management of the aforementioned. Furthermore, the marketing is highly saturated and very, very false.
There are many homophobic and racist teachers. They have strict rules to ensure no one can be themselves. They favour the top students (I know this as I am a top student) and very few teachers offer average or sub par students the chance to improve.
The school doesn't allow you to be yourself. There's too much of racism and favoritism. If you're one of the average students, some teachers won't notice you yet they go all out for their top students.
Ligbron is nothing more than a over glorified and racist academy. They will tell you they’re not racist but if that is so then why do they separate learners on bases of language because they have English and Afrikaans classes. They’ll say that the reason for these classes is so that learners can express themselves through their “home language” yet there isn’t even one vanecular class in the school yet there are seven of both English and Afrikaans classes and black learners would be discouraged from speaking their African Home languages and even punished for that matter they will try and nullify their racism through the most rediculous methods and reasons you can think of but there are some good stuff members who try to make the school a better place
School didn't let me be myself, told me I'm not allowed to be Homosexual. School will tell pupils to redo matric/ go to another school rather than helping them just to keep their reputation up. Over works students, and doesn't give you enough memories that will make you wish you could go back to high school
