Teachers Bully students, they aren't understanding of any situation, they are sexist in their efforts to discipline learners.
My own opinions were shut down and not taken into consideration, and if you're parents aren't donating money to the school, forget about getting culture or sports awards.
When waking up for school, I don't worry about the amount of work and how I would get through it, instead I worry about what verbal abuse I am going to experience from teachers
If your parents do not contribute money to your sport, you can definitely forget making first team. The teachers are unreasonable and often discourage learners when they have some difficulties with a subject, for example, I was called stupid and idiotic, and that I would never amount to anything by my maths teacher, and when learners finally complained about her they would try and sweep it under the rug, after a while, they did let her go but she came back a few months later. She was the reason why I took math literacy, because I could not take being bullied by a teacher anymore.
The school has a rule that you are not allowed to take off your blazer unless it is higher than 30° outside, I fainted in the bathroom because a teacher forced me to wear my blazer with it being 29° outside, otherwise they would've given me detention because I have "bothered" them with this issue and that it is "nonsense" that I get too hot.
The school also controls students social media accounts by sending prifects to follow and stalk learners, mostly girls, on Instagram who posts anything close to something in a bikini, bathing suit, crop top and shorts, they would then send an email to the parents saying that they know it's not their place to say anything, but they just want to let your parent know that you are not using social media "correctly"
They are also sexist towards girls. They would give us talks every term on the etiquette of a young woman, and that some of us dress like sluts because they had an issue with boys taking pictures of girls rear in jeans, they did not talk to the boys about this. they over stepped when the female therapist said that crop tops are the reason we get raped and harassed by boys because " they can't help themselves"
This school in all honesty is just disgusting, and I don't wish for anyone to go the same experience I have. I expected my high school years to be fun and interesting, not this crap.
The people on this site allege that money is the key to success in this school, which is absolutely not the case. Hoërskool Linden is a caring and equal environment, with great academics as well.
This is an amazing school. Academically it excells, culturally it's phenomenal, with many traditions one associates with the property.
It's funny to see that the people on this website's main complaint seems to be the school rules.
As someone who is currently attending Hoërskool Linden, I can confirm that the school does indeed have forms of disciplinary action, yet these are nowhere near what I would call unreasonable.
The school has a negative-"mark" system, which inlists teachers to take note and hold record of disruptiveness and bad behaviour, to be marked up for a negative-mark one would have to violate several rules and most times teachers will ask bystanders whether their decisionmaking was reasonable.
The hair and clothing code are also reasonable, anyone complaining about it probably o4iginates from a hillbilly school, as you are (as a boy) expected to wear a fashionable pair of trousers, a white buttoned-shirt, blazer, shoes and a tie. The same as Every. Single. School.
The same can be said for female wear.
Good school and image. Very strict and sometimes unreasonable rules. The more money the more likely you are to get leadership roles or parts in plays. Very good academic, average culture activity and very bad sport record. Has a school psychologist but mental health in the school is quite bad. A lot of things swept under the rug to protect the school image. Good people and they really take care to incorporate everyone into the school and it's culture. Very good teachers and fun environment.
Ugly school clothes. They like to take a lot of small donations.
Overall good school.
Hoërskool Linden is a great school if your parents have money. Children whose parents give money to the shool have more “rights” and are placed higher than those children’s parents who don’t. The school has very strict rules that can sometimes be unfair. Academically the school is great. And choir is everything for the school. If you are a student who wants to excel in sport you should consider a other school as Linden’s sport is not very good
Besides a lot of things swept under the carpet that could make the school look bad, it has been a good school regarding discipline and academic wise. The school has strict standards for students as well as educators.
A wonderful culture of tradition. The school allows its students to indulge in fun activities every now and then. Academics are very good. But quite strict rules that seem ridiculous sometimes...
Linden is a great Afrikaans school. The teachers are willing to help a learner in need and are always there to teach you important life lessons. Although the schooling is wonderful, certain rules, like the hair rules and dress code are extremely strict and remove some joy out of the school.
