An overall good school. Teachers who genuinely care about you. Just the absolute best, but when it comes to inclusion of races and learner's well-being, not so good.
Accidentally-great school. But they claim to focus a lot on equal rights, bullying and all that but they really don’t. I don’t recommend this school for people of colour nor do I recommend it for people who come from less wealthy families-bc they want money left right and centre and if you don’t have that money, it’s note their problem and they don’t care. In the past 3 years we’ve reported a teacher for being racist and each time nothing has been done about it. Not only is more than half of the staff racist and homophobic, so is the principal. If a girl wants to take someone of the same sex to a school event as a date, she has to ask for permission? but if they decide to take a male it’s completely fine? That’s bullshit. If a student comes forward with a complaint of homophobia, nothing is done about it. If a student who’s other than white has a complaint about racism, nothing will be done about it. Black students are told what to do with their hair but white students aren’t. The code of conduct says that you may dye your hair a natural colour. Last year a black student came to school with blonde hair and was forced to dye it back to black because “that’s the only hair colour a black person can have” but a white student came back to PINK hair and another with BLUE hair and NOTHING WAS SAID ABOUT IT. They stayed with this hair throughout the whole year...see the problem?
Eunice is something else, I'm not going to lie it is school that helps you find your talents and embrace them before it's too late, such as choir, drama productions etc. But the school does not show much diversity although it may seem to be diverse based off of what the school looks like it does not show within. Racial issues still live among the people in the school, people are judged based of appearance and sexuality preferences. The ladies aren't judged by their fellow peers but by their teachers. Some teachers show great leadership and beautiful personalities but some are the reason to the lady's newly developed insecurities. Teachers do not react well when I lady would like to defend themselves when accused wrongly, leading ladies to grow weaker and to bottle up emotions and to experience psychological trauma, unhealthy behavior and emotional abuse. Though we may be asked for our opinion it is never acknowledged and shoved away completely.
Some of the teachers are so kind and caring and make the place seem amazing, but beyond that, the school is very hypocritical saying they encourage individuality and work against bullying whereas if their students do not be exactly as they want or show anything different from the image they want to create, the students get that individuality bullied out of them. The counselling is flawed, the support is basically non-existent and the school covers it up with outreaches etc to make a good image. The school itself is also not LGBTQ+ friendly, but there are many kind and supporting students. Bullying isn't addressed if the bully is one of the girls who excel in academics/sports/culteral activities. They also do not allow for proper social interaction and development other than girls which makes it very difficult to cope in most social environments outside of school and family. The love for learning, adventure and life is sucked out of the students and most of the students have underlying stress, anxiety, depression and a lot more that the school waves off and labels as "lazy". The extremely good matric certificate there is not worth all of the mental health issues you can encounter there
Academically, it is one of prestige and you will gain discipline, however, a sense of individuality is not something that is encouraged. For POCs and the less financially fortunate , Eunice is a traumatising experience with subtle hints of racism and classism clouded as tradition.
The system is rigid, and draining for those who want introspective journeys or merely memorable high school experiences.
You get your money’s worth when it comes to the services that the school provides. It offers amazing teachers and even has free counseling for the students, but they are not afraid to bleed their students dry of every last bit of sanity and love for life just to maintain their ‘perfect’ image. Good school, but wouldn’t go there again willingly, no matter how good it is.
