Good Posts are not Real

To the people praising this school, open your eyes. Stop living in denial. The majority of parents and learners whom have given bad reviews are speaking the truth. Those giving good reviews either are one of the privileged kids that get special treatment mentioned in other posts or they are fake posts.

Amazing experience, Thank you

As a parent, all we want is the best for our kids. My 2 kids attended Edenvale High School and had a ball. Rules and discipline is how I raised my kids, they fitted right in at Edenvale High School. 1 of my kids was sporty, the other one not and they both had amazing experiences coming through high school. The academic staff go above and beyond what is expected from an educator, the administrative staff are on the ball and know what is required. Senior management are still in touch with the kids and have their finger on the pulse of the school. Any child who attends Edenvale High School needs to realize that they are joining a family, they need to know that all children thrive with clear cut rules and standards. Discipline starts at home and Edenvale High School expects the learners and their parents to respect the code of conduct and the school rules. Without rules there is no respect. If you don't agree with the Code of conduct or the school rules, there are other high schools within the area where you can move your child to. I have read some of the reviews on this website and my opinion is..."If you were that unhappy at the school, why did you not look for another school to send your child." If you did not think things were handled correctly, why did you not take it further? It is easy to find fault on social media, not so easy to confront face-to-face and discuss it and come to an agreement. Not all children are geniuses, STOP thinking they are!

Secondary School

EHS is only but a mirage ... BEWARE

I am absolutely shocked to say the least. Besides the FORMER principal referring to our children as cabbages if they do not do any sports and belittling them (on instance, the principal made the children that does sports stand and then told them to look at all the "cabbages" sitting on the floor who just take from the school and not worth anything), WHICH THEY GET BULLIED INTO BY THE SCHOOL, this school has heavy racial undertones. Preference is given to white pupils. Preference is given to students whose parents sit on the governing body and whom donate money to the school for upgrades. Learners whose parents are not well off financially are treated as if they are invisible and some are in fact targeted. Some children are being profiled and their security bully these children. I thought that sending my child to EHS was the best thing, but as of late, I have been hearing all these stories coming out and after review, they were proven true. The deputy/vice principal is extremely racist. It is shocking. I am glad that my other child is at Edenglen High School who are more diverse. BTW I am a white parent whom has noted this racial treatment. When addressed with the school, they flat out deny it. EHS is also homophobic. My child is gay and was picked on. Absolutely disgusting behavior. This school looks amazing on social media and on paper, but let me tell you, they are far from this. Do not let the indoor pool, astro turf or gym fool you. This is not the right school for you. I am shocked that I only found out about all of this towards the end of my child's time with them. DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL. Also note that if there is anything bad that happens, this is swept under the rug. There was a male student whom was sexually harrassing girls for years. He has only just been expelled. There is bullying which does not get addressed as the teachers, principal and DEPUTY principal are bullies themselves. A female child was slapped by a male child last year, when reported, no action was taken and in fact the female child got into trouble although she was completely innocent. I cannot believe that I was fooled for so long. If I could, I would have sent her elsewhere. Please do your due diligence with this school and read all the reviews. This is not the school for your child.

EHS is an amazing school

If you have a problem with the school, I suggest you leave because it is the best school. Every school has its ups and downs. We have great sporting activities and our academics are amazing. It may be a bit strict but it’s for the best because kids have no manners.

Past pupil review

I attended the school myself in the 90s. I am reading many negative comments. I can vouch and say many are agreeable, with the head master or vice principal at the time I was there, did refer you pupils not participating in extra curriculum activities as cabbages. Looking back. I believe the headmaster has good intentions to regulate his students in the right direction. As he wants to run a tight ship, he uses many of his methods to weed out the underperforming or delinquent students. Just don't be bought into the fallacy it's a private school education at the cost of a public school. That's just nonsense. Overall a good buck for your money and children attending need to be focused and serious about their futures. You can go far at Edenvale High.

Unsympathetic and money driven :)

Lack of empathy for other human beings. Only worried about dollar signs.
I went to this school from gr 8-10
Single mom who never had issues with payment before lost her job and did what she could to pay but they couldn't be bothered the more she struggled the less they could care. She can hardly afford to keep herself alive due to long term medical conditions and now decide after 3 years of no longer being in the school to deliver a summons with interest might i add. So that's my story. If you're looking for a homey school for your child look elsewhere :)

An amazing school.

I love my school. Those who don't like it, leave then. I personally chose this school as I thought it was the best and I don't regret my decision. I wouldn't change it for the world.
Edenvale high won the prize for the best high school in Ekurhuleni district and it deserves better recognition. The teachers are kind and compassionate and care about the learners. I have not seen nor experienced any racism towards any one, myself included. They are strict and disciplined and a dedicated school. The standards of the school and learners and the matric distinctions are much better and higher than other schools. This school seriously deserves more recognition.

Nothing Good to Say

Despicable to say the least

I've experienced the worst treatment for my child at this God-forsaken school. The sublime racist undertones are deafening. Kids are taunted by immature racist teachers and "deputy principals" who use the foulest language. If I'd known better, I would have sent my child to Edenglen High that is perceived to be a school full thugs but produce a much higher standard in the area in terms of matric pass rate. The hair policy belongs in the archive if your hair is not "swishy" There seriously needs to be some introspection when to comes to telling students that boys have a certain hairstyle to girls. How does hair have a learning ability to anyone's education. As along as a pupil or student is neat and tidy that all that matters. Maybe all fuds and their ill-mannered children should regroup and make life in this "prestigious" school bearable. What they don't understand is that, our school fees is no different to their white counterparts.

Edenvale high School

Kak School

Edenvale high is a school that is manipulated to suite the likes of white students. There are rules that are set out saying that hair cannot have highlights yet every single boy comes to school with highlights n their hair without punishment. One of my friends had braids in his hair and was punished . Braids are a traditional black hair style yet it isn't allowed in the school. If you do not do any sports in the school or arnt academically inclined. You might as well be a poster on the wall because nobody cares about you. The security gaurds also harass boys to the extent that I've been searched almost every single time I've gone to the bathroom during break. Also everytime the schools most prized possession " Wendy the dog " has been purposly made to search my bag on multiple occasions. There's a rule that you can get punished for being associated with something you haven't done. On multiple occasions ive had friends being told to move to Edenglen high if they cannot adhere to these ' prestigious rules '. Rugby , hockey and netball are also the most important sports in the school. EHS has so much talent in other sports such as soccer . But obviously because soccer is a prodominantly black sport, no types of improvement in setting up tournaments. Let's be honest the rugby team is worse than anything you'll see. They don't win any trophies but the afrikaans men will enforce rugby in the school. Let's not forget that there is less that 5 ethnic teachers in the school. My rant has been said. For any parent or student reading this I wish to see your experience in the school ❤ ** ***** and that thing*** ****. I hope you see this so people can think twice about your 'prestigious school '

Edenvale high School

Edenvale high needs changes

This school is not a school you would want to send your child to. It is racist, sexist and treats their students unfairly. Only students who are teachers favourties get treated nicely. If you aren’t a teachers favourite they will go out of their way just to make your school years a living hell, not to mention their rules are outdated and most of them are purely ridiculous. Some students can’t even go to the bathroom without one of the security guards following them into the bathroom thinking they going to do stuff, talk about no privacy at all. The guards also give detention for no reason for example: if you don’t wear your blazer you would get a detention or if your zipper on your jacket isn’t fully closed you would get a detention.
In conclusion this school isn’t the best and I would reconsider sending your child there.

Edenvale high School

Edenvale needs changes

Edenvale high school is not the school they make it out to be, In the school magazine and on all social media’s they make it seem like they are the best school with fair discipline and a perfect school in general, they THINK they the best school in South Africa but in reality, they catfish all the parents. They give unnecessary punishments for stuff that isn’t even relevant, the school security will give Detentions for useless stuff e.g if you zipper of your jacket isnt pulled all the way up you get a detention etc, if your jacket/Blazer isn’t on during a hot day you get detention... i could go on and on, with sporting it is compulsory for Gr8s to swim even if they don’t know how to, they are forced to swim in a race, that is not the way schools should promote sports, Nobody HAS to do anything, The school picks favorites so all the good children get let off when they are bad and all the bad children get into trouble all the time even if they are good Edenvale picks people to pick on and every week they have to go through a whole day in that school and then detention afterwards... Edenvale needs changes. Thank you

not the school we thought it was.

words cannot describe how disappointed i am. when i first started attending edenvale high i thought this was going to be amazing. i was very wrong. edenvale high is very biased and racist towards people of colour. the teachers aren’t bad it’s just the school it’s self. if you don’t do sports you’re nothing to the school. you’re known as a cabbage. your mental well-being goes down the drain once you enter the school. the teachers do not help with bullying at all. my experience so far is okay but not the best. but what i’ve heard from other people... it’s worse. edenvale high school aka “our second home”

Edenvale is not a good school

I'm no longer at Edenvale for a good reason. The school always brags about their achievements, and all the good things that have happened but keep quiet about anything bad. I had a sibling who had a decent experience at the school but that was because he was involved in extra activities and did well in academics so he was treated well and respected. If you don't achieve something that meets the school's unrealistic standards you are treated unfairly. For example if you do a club sport outside of school the school would usually tell you that you're lazy for not doing a school sport instead. The school had picked on me and my other sibling for no reason. I was told by teachers that there was a problem with me because I didn't enjoy school, but it is because the teachers don't seem to care about your well-being, they only about what image you can create for the school. Students are usually treated unfairly throughout their entire high school experience if they make one mistake. Whenever there is any bullying happening between students, it seems to be whoever tells the story first is the person they will believe. You could try to tell your side of the story but it wouldn't help as they make up their minds and punish the wrong people. I could go on and on about all the incidents that have happened that have been swept under the rug, but for those of you thinking about going to edenvale, I can only say that you must be prepared to have your spirit crushed.

Edenvale our “second home”

I will keep this short and simple

Edenvale High school is racist, biased, sexist and uses propaganda to manipulate their students.

The school has been involved in my cases of racism between the teachers, deputy principal, headmaster and the pupils. Yet nothing has between done about it.

As a former Caucasian learner I witnessed a lot of racism in school, my black friends were always treated differently then I.

If you don’t do sports at EHS you are nothing to the school, or as the the headmaster refers to it, you are a cabbage.

As a female student I often felt uncomfortable being taught by male teachers as they would constantly make inappropriate remarks and my fellow pupils would be touched inappropriately by our male teachers. Even after reporting these incidents nothing would be done.

On another note , we had unqualified teachers teaching major subjects. I also had a few of my former classmates teaching freshly out of high school with no qualifications.

The school uses many forms of propaganda to control students. Example calling students cabbages on the first day of high school to force them to play sports and having a weekly Assembly to brag about the school’s achievements but not take about the problems occurring at the school and how they can try fix them.

To conclude, Edenvale high school is not the wonderful school they claim to be. Therefore I would think twice before considering EHS as an option for your child.

Protect yourself 🤝

This school truly is a racist hell hole
The deputy head boy isn’t very academic but because he’s white and does first team hockey he was chosen right away whilst there were other candidates actually deserving of that role
Black kids are constantly being picked on and accused
Some white boys were caught vaping in the bathrooms and got no punishment at all,one was even chosen as prefect
The old teachers are very racist and treat black children inferior, refusing to let them go to the bathroom
Don’t consider it if you want to protect your mental health,it’s not as amazing as it seems ❤️

Personally I think the school discriminates against black students.
To the extent that they don’t even have any black teachers in the school.
They headmaster is rude and makes fun of people on many occasions.

Not good.

I’m a past student, but as I have many ties to the school, I feel my opinion is still more than valid.

I hope this is good for anyone who is questioning whether or not they should go to this school.

So to summarize my thoughts:

If you’re a member of the LGBT community, BIPOC, anything but Christian and a person full of passion for their future, don’t go to this school.
It’s not for you, the staff is racist, the rules are out-dated and often quite ridiculous, don’t play any other sport except for hockey, don’t be a young political activist, don’t be you.
It’s not fun, it’s a brick house full of dream crushers. But I guess if all you want to do is get a matric certificate, than this place is just right for you. I don’t have a single friend that truly liked the school. I have two extra family members who attended this school, each one of us are four years apart, and they also hated it just as much too.
I recommend any other school.

I cannot wait to leave this hell hole.

I hate it here ❤️

So basically that’s all I wanted to say but it won’t let me post if it’s under 20 words so I’m typing this to reach the stupid word count.

Also, the super positive review by a “student” is literally so fake. Deadass some teacher wrote that krap. And she’s probably got like 10 cats.

Not the school we thought it was

Teachers are biased and will believe rumours about another child, regardless of whether it is true or not, the headmaster has blackmailed students into getting them to do thing so he doesn’t look bad. The selection of prefects is biased and not fair to those lost deserving and their code of conduct is pathetically childish, there is a teacher who has been known to touch girls or react around girls in an inappropriate manner and has apparently not been dealt with.
To an outsider the overall appearances look great, but once you’re actually part of the school you will want to leave and find somewhere better. Many stories will go around and it is entertained by adults.

Terrible.

I am a past student at edenvale high. I had a terrible experience and was grateful to finally leave. The school focuses on sport and extra murals more than academics. You were called a “cabbage” if you did not do any extra murals. The prefects belittle the other grades and make us feel inferior. I was bullied for majority of my schooling and the teachers did nothing about it no matter how many times I went to talk to them. There are so many unnecessary rules that would never effect getting an education at all. They paid so much money for AstroTurf for hockey, however the tiles on the floor and bricks were broken and pushed up from tree roots. There were so many mismatched tiles and majority of the desks were lob sided.

Edenvale High the "Dream School"

As a current pupil of EHS I would like to give an insider perspective to the daily life, school routine and overall atmosphere of the school.

Edenvale High at face value seems to be the picture perfect school with its amazing academic achievements, verity in classes, sports as well as cultural activities however all that glitters isn't gold and the facade of EHS wears thin soon after arrival.

The school prides itself in achievements and floods all news to students of these achievements like high class propaganda and many fellow learners eat it up. I don't wish to belittle or under represent the schools achievements but merely wish to bring light to the underlining problems that are ignored to preserve these achievements.

To start, the school's code of conduct is followed to the tee. This might sounds good and necessary which it is, to an extent. EHS puts Code of Conduct before academic, sport or culture activities. The Code of Conduct is enforced in its extremes to the point that learning is interrupted. Examples can be seen by the very public incident of a boy of colour being detained and not allowed in the classroom for his afro. This is the reality many males face in EHS without the publicity to help them back in class. Another example, A girl in class was wearing an nose ring (with her mask on as per government regulation) and received a detention for this even though it was not visible. Learners on occasions are asked to remove their mask to see if any school rules have been broken. This would be manageable if the rules were applied evenly through students however some are targeted more than others (Those who stand out) and are less applied to sports orientated learners (Rugby and Hockey players).

With this environment already lingering corruption runs like fire with incidents of the Vice-Principal telling Grade 12 learners and their parents that he'll increase their marks for their university submissions. This is a tactic used to increase Edenvale High's university acceptance rates to make them look better on paper. Other instances of corruption comes in the form of turning a blind eye. A fellow leaner reported another leaner being bullied to a high up and was met with the response of "He's weird, there nothing we can do."

Edenvale High has had many Covid cases without the school being closed. The Principle under reports on the Covid cases in the school and learners are left to find out through the grape vine of other learners. It is also worry that during a recent test, my class's test papers were collected by and handed out by a teacher who didn't wear a mask and licked his fingers while separating pages for learners tests that were being handed out. Teachers are also increasingly wearing "mini" face shields with discomfort of the learners for their own health.

There is homophobia, sexism and racism in EHS that is all swept under the rug to preserve the name of the school. In this review i barely scratch the surface of the hidden problems of EHS.

Overall if you fit in and you are a straight male who plays sports. Edenvale High will serve to be a good school for you.

The “dream” school

Edenvale High, is basically, for most people, like a second home. From our relationships with the teacher to our bond with our class.

Edenvale High offers a variety of subject that other schools might not have the resources to offer, from our business subjects to our science classes and even IT and CAT classes.

Our school is a freak for sports, especially for rugby and swimming, but we encourage our other teams aswell. Edenvale is on such a high level for sport that we tend to compete with private schools and win.

For our new comers and their parent the school holds an open day every year for our grade 8 potentials, every subject has its own showcase, to grasp the attention of the young, from science experiments to baking in the consumer class.

On the safety side of things our school has 2 amazing security guards, who with the assistance of Wendy, our security canine, make sure that there is no harm to the kids as well as harm that they cause on themselves by consuming narcotics. Wendy is specifically trained to sniff out any unauthorized substances and learners who test positive for drug use are reprimanded and are advised to go to a rehabilitation center.

As for bullying, our school takes no excuse, if you care caught making somebody else feel unsafe in the school environment, you will be punished! Our matrics especially feel the wrath of our principal as they were on the verge of having the matric dance cancelled due to “initiation” as well as “40 days”.

Overall, I consider Edenvale High School to be a great school to succeed in.
