Dut positives:
-good security and mostly safe in campus
-most lecturers are dedicated
-nice libraries and friendly staff
-Can get a good job after your studies as dut is very accredited
-students always fight for what's right
-beautiful libraries.
Dut negatives:
-Very dangerous surrounding areas and when walking from building to building you can get robbed, heard many stories about students phones getting pulled as they are walking from one building to the next and my boyfriend's brother was robbed at gun point and by knifes for his laptop.
-some lecturers are lazy, unfriendly and bad attitude towards students.
-lectures are far apart one from the next, so it can take awhile to walk, if you first year, you can get lost, as dut is very big and confusing with no tours.
- students disrupt lessons
- dut never answers their phones. If you have a problem or queries, it's impossible to get a hang of your department, it the call just rings and rings.
-some campuses are filthy
-even thiefs in campus
As you can see there is more bad than good. Just be careful and be aware when crossing roads. Keep your expensive belongings hidden in your bags. And good luck to you, campus will be a miserable one here
Being a first year student coming from a reputable high school, I was anxious about the quality of education I would receive at DUT. To an extent, my worries were unnecessary as most of my lecturers are dedicated to their jobs as teachers. Unfortunately, some lectures have not been as committed as other. Some lecturers aren't showing up for classes, many times without valid excuses. Loadshedding is also a big problem as there is not generators for lecture venues. Classes have been cancelled during loadshedding because projectors were necessary for the class. Other classes continued on in complete darkness. Cudos to the lecturers brave enough to continue the lectures in darkness. On a positive note, DUT has been dealing incredibly well with striking as the security on campus have been exceptional! Well done to those who are keeping us safe. Even though DUT is not as great as other tertiary institutions, I am still proud to call myself a DUT student. Thank you DUT for giving me the opportunity to chase my dreams!
