The "Germanness" of the Deutsche International Schule (DIS) in Pretoria East is unfortunately exclusively promoting the German culture at the expense of others. The complaints of racism on this forum as well as the extremely loud music lasting over three nights (Thu, Fry & Sat) emanating from the annual October Fest, clearly demonstrates their German arrogance and contempt of others, particularly the surrounding communities. Music audible INSIDE bedrooms in homes one km away from the Fest, reaches up to 61 dB (almost 20 dB higher than the legal regional ambient noise level of 45 dB). Outside our homes it reads up to 72 dB. The lyrics are clearly audible and the bass thunk-thunk-thunk throughout our homes. Attempts to address this issue respectfully in previous years, led us to being nearly assaulted by German parents at the Fest. The principle has also refused to see us and has been giving us the cold shoulder. As one of the t-shirts on sale at the Fest states, "I care schnitzel". This is indeed very true of the DIS.
Just to be clear: We have lovely German neighbours. I myself am of German descent. We have nothing against the DIS and the Fest per se, just their bullying behaviour!
I am a scholar at the DSP , for almost 8 years . Although the academic standard is exceptional, I have unfortunately experienced many racist situations. I am a person of color which sadly gave me a VIP ticket to the circle if victims suffering under the oppression of inequality and white supremacy.
If you want to see your child do well academically, choose DSP , if you want to see your flourish emotionally, choose another school.
This is school is one of the most racist schools in Pretoria East, they use their German influence to segregate black and children of colour from their white german counterparts.
Teachers who are mostly white, treat black students differently and harshly compared to their white counterparts as well.
If you are looking for a school that values your child/childrens education and well being I don't not recommend Dsp, there are many other schools in the area, they are a bit more expensive but they are honestly worth it. Please don't subject your children to a Apartheid setting they honestly deserve better.
