My daughter has been in Curro for 4 years now, and every day I regret enrolling her in this school.
All that matters to them is money, swopping High School and Primary School buildings is proof of that, make more room for more kids right?
Over the time my child has spent at this school I have made comparisons to public schools.
• Curro offers less subject choices in Grade 10 – 12 than most government schools. (They literally offer the basics) On their website they do stipulate having wider subject choices which are digital but never mentioned those when choosing subject choices for Grade 10. I assume they don’t actually offer them considering their staff turnover or lack of staff in the school.
•The office staff are very unorganized and have very little knowledge of what is going on in the school. They will send 2 letters out on the same topic which never correlates. Times are a big issue in that school, events are rarely finished on time, I have often waited to collect my daughter from an event and waited well over an hour of the time they stipulated it finishes. They lose paperwork or mix up payments.
•The parking in this school is horrendous, they didn’t plan this very well or they just keep enrolling more students above their capacity.
•This school doesn’t really offer much for the fees you pay, no swimming pool, barely any trees, the primary school only put in jungle gyms recently, the bare minimum is offered here, kids are expected to sit in the scorching hot sun during sports days. Looks more like an office block than an actual school with no attempt at improving the environment.
•The sport there is very limited, aswell as the P.E teacher barely doing any actual physical activities with the kids during Physical Ed period. (High School) barely even present.
•The school is loud about anti-bullying, yet the teachers are the biggest bullies of all. Like shaming students as punishment by reading out their exam marks infront of the whole class. (grade 11 maths teacher). Shame on you. They insult the students openly with no shame, put the students down instead of motivating them. There are many instances of bullying I can mention but the list is just too long. My daughter is always telling me “it’s like walking into the pits of hell voluntarily everyday” The teacher lack sympathy and understanding.
• Some of the teachers lack the teaching skills or are just not interested, one of the grade 11 teachers makes the students watch you tube videos. The LO teacher loses the assignments to often. And often the teachers discuss inappropriate things with the students or shares their personal life stories with them.
•When an incident happens with an unruly student at the school, the whole school suffers for it..i wont mention the incident here..but because of that the school bathrooms got locked for a couple of days resulting in students not being able to use the bathroom all day.
•They run the school like the military, have to get a signed permission slip before even using the bathroom.
•They more worried about the students nails and hair when there is way more serious things happening in this school.
* The uniform is a nightmare to order, never have stock!! and overpriced.
There is so much more that I can say about this school but honestly the more I write the more frustrated I get. Us as parents work hard to send our children to a school in the hopes they will get the best education without compromising on their happiness, but this school hasn’t offered a good education or happiness for my daughter. It has been an extremely unpleasant experience at this school.
The sad thing is this school could be great, it has potential if the staff would just show initiative, compassion, enthusiasm and were more passionate about teaching. I understand that its hard work especially when there is unruly students, but students that are well behaved shouldn’t have to suffer because of the bad apples. The principle needs to take a hard look at the reviews about Curro Wilgeheuwel which 90% are bad and reevaluate a lot things in this school.
Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel was a nice school but it started going downhill after covid now the teachers are horrible because they switch them out like changing clothes and their current staff I won't say names but the grade 11 business teacher are really bad and ever since Gibson(former executive head) left it has been a totall hellhole and I don’t recommend taking your child here maybe in primary but High school wise your better off at Aurora.
Reasons why I say this is because the prices at the "Tuckshop" are overpriced.
And incidents like vaping and drug dealing in make it 10x worse as it resulted in bathrooms being locked yes the bathroom and it caused students to have sexual incidents and relations and are never seen again or heard from.
I was in this school ever since it began and after I've left it has has been the only curro school to have suicides so the environment is toxic and the cameras don't even work and plus it's security is so bad that it's even been robbed I don't recommend and although you might think this Is a very extra or critical review it's the cold hard sad honest truth about curro and in 2022 their grade 8s did so bad that 60 percent had to have their marks boosted
As a result in poor faculty and I can this with confidence that curro is a terrible experience hopefully it improves because In its current state with drugs, sexual relations and even it trending on tiktok its not the place to be and this is from a fellow student and unless you want to punish your children i strongly advise shying from Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel, because the grades are horrible teachers are rude and unapologetic infact some even embrace it.
Don't even get me started on sports because the favoritism is terrible and they prioritize them over academics only to do horrible and wow once you transfer out you really see how bad Curro is but to be more specific CAW is and I'm sorry for anyone that has to go here because if you go around and asks students why they chose to go there like myself all of them will respond with it wasn't their choice or it was their only choice because trust me no student actually enjoys being there.
I just feel bad for how poorly the cleaning staff and students are treated because wow The whole scheme is just tedious and horrible.
It's sad to see or even experience the rise and fall if Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel
Well to start off curro is a place where ist is just business no education whatsoever they lie saying they get teachers who have masters in all their fields but knowing them they probbaly get the first one they see. A teacher at the start of the year was fired becuase she gave demerits that were not necessary to add to that many of the teachers set unrealistic dates to hand in assignments even though there is supposssed to be an allocated amount of time. The highschool is always unorganised as teachers keep in mind that work there dont even know whats going on on top of that the amount of filth around the school is insane. There is leaking sewage all over the school. A teacher was even using racist slurs and excused herself by saying it was for educationalpurposes. The students on top of that vape on a consistent basis which to me is not surprising students get caught vaping and arent even punished with expelled. Parents easily bribe the teachers to get their child a "good" mark. The amount of substances used is just scary as kids do them as if it is normal. To be honest thats all i can say really jk, This is the curro experience. Learners to leaders more like learners to criminals
The traffic at Curro Wilgeheuwel Academy has become a nightmare. Parents themselves are impatient and are not at all curtous. The school has only given empty promises to sort out the traffic. I was involved in a accident where a parent on purpose bumped into my car and left damage and acted like she did nothing wrong.
I really love it! the teachers really help and since ive been going my grades really came up! the teachers are also really helpful and kind, they give you help when you need it and they are easy to approach.
the sports is really great, and the culture activities get you involved in socialising. There is a strict code of conduct that is what makes curro an amazing school to be at, the children are respectful and dont judge you, we all help each other out. Thats why i am proud to say im proud to be one in the curro family
I started at this school the same year that it launched for the first time.I was in grade six back then and i would say that the school has really progressed over the years,i mean its not perfect and just like every school it does have its downfalls.Curro's failure to communicate with parents and students makes it very difficult to co-operate and keep up with any new information. The education is not really top notch and they loose a lot of teachers in just a few months which means that a few classes go for weeks without a teacher and fall back in school work. The discipline really needs to be worked on because not everything is brought to light and some issues are just thrown under the carpet and the rest of us must just live with it.But im not here to just talk about the downfalls, the school is great when it comes to social activities and they really try their best to make sure that everyone is accomodated.I like the fact that they have a variety of sport choices to pick from. With my experience at curro,i would definetlely recommend the school to people looking for a new school.
I joined Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel when it just opened and I was in the highest existing grade (gr9) at the time. It has had plenty of time since it’s grand opening to manage itself accordingly, however this isn’t the case. There has always been poor management, lack of communication and not to mention a lack of adequate teaching. These are standard problems most schools experience but the only difference here is that this Academy advertises the complete opposite of what they provide. Do not even get me started with discipline... it is honestly horrifying how the staffing team deal with discipline. If it’s not more than 4 teachers leaving within a space of 2 months then most of the crucial disciplinary issues are swept under a rug. I am very disappointed with the performance of this school and I do not recommend it.
This school should be a military instead of a school.curro has alot of rules that are fully useless.one rule is if you get a detention you will get suspended.the maths teacher makes you squat for 10 minutes if you late for a class or homework not done and he will still give you a detention.there is alot of drugs and bulling in the school.curro make most children very angry on how the school is.
