A few racism issues, only a few good teachers, unfair disciplinary practices. Good for university credits, bad social interactions. Kids are too sensitive and teachers continue to baby them. Very strict rules for braids and coiled hair.
1. Cares about how rich the parents are
2. Prefers extroverted loud obnoxious girls
3. Prefer IQ over EQ
4. Racist children with no diversity skills
5. Cliques and segregation is rife
6. Academic shaming
7. Catholic religious enforcement
8. The teachers have lost control
Take your kid here if you want them to hate every living day.
Although the academics are great, the school does not care about students mental health and put loads of pressure on them. They don’t put much care into cultural and sporting. They prioritize students learning Afrikaans while kids learning Zulu are years behind other schools. Students and teachers are often racist and homophobic and are quite judgmental. Nevermind they harshly punish kids for insignificant things but don’t seem to care when there are serious issues. while they’ve ‘tried’ to accommodate bullying they failed miserably and took lgbtq students in for ‘forcing’ their beliefs even though they forcefully shove Christianity down the throats of students making them resent the religion. Most students are tired and unhappy and the energy is draining.
Its been a great pleasure and privilege being able to go to Brescia while being very competitive in its academic nature it still manages to be a place where growth is unlimited.
If you're someone who goes to school purely for an education, then I'm happy to inform you that this is the school for you. But if you'd like a more vibrant High School experience wherein you'll make lifelong friendships and memories that you'll carry into adulthood, then, well..
Aside from the ''obvious'' social flaws that everyone's mentioning in the reviews, there are more practical reasons for my saying:
1. The cultural and sport activities are given little to no recognition and funding from the school.
2. When a girl isn't doing well in a subject, she is shamed rather than assisted in the necessary areas. Most parents hire private tutors for their children - over and above the expensive tuition.
3. The major productions/plays are not provided with a budget. Students and teachers must buy props using money from their own pockets. In addition to this, all students in the High School are expected, well, forced to attend these productions in order to attain a good Drama mark. This takes away from the joy of watching a production for suppoert and entertainment purposes. Instead, students have to stress about remembering every detail of the play for their assignment. Wouldn't it be better to promote the arts and show the girls that it's fun?
4. There is a choir. After being at the school for years, I didn't even know that. And even so, it's doesn't receive much attention.
5. In a class of 20-25 learners, the academic attention is still limited. Getting through the curriculum as quickly as possible seems to be more important than ensuring that pupils understand. Being a minority group in the school does not help with this either.
6. Cliques. They're in every school, really. What makes the ones here different is the clear racial division between each group of friends. I know, sometimes it's accidental. But here, it is difficult to ''get into'' or belong to a predominantly white group.
7. Lgbtq+. At a Catholic school, one would expect some homophobia. Even though pride month is celebrated, snide remarks are still made toward the community by other students or staff.
8. Racism. It's quite obvious, that's why I put it last. White teachers and students have said racial slurs in the past and since there are no repercussions, they continue to do so.
If you do ever go to this school, just know that although the struggle is real.. Your dreams are realer. Set those goals, work on yourself and bag those A grades. Get as invloved as you can and simply don't care :) You'll thank yourself later.

1. The cultural and sports activities are given little to no recognition and funding from the school.
2. When a student isn't doing well in a subject, they are shamed rather than assisted in the areas they struggle with. Most girls, like myself have/had private tutors - over and above the expensive tuition.
3. The major productions/plays aren't funded by the school. Teachers have to fund the play from their own pockets.
If it weren't for the school making it compulsory to watch these shows in order to get a Drama mark, the hall wouldn't be half as full. Not because the shows aren't great, but because they aren't promoted and are subtly looked down upon.
4. There is a choir, after being at the school for years, I didn't even know that there was.
5. In classes of 20-25 , there is very little academic attention given to students, it's especially difficult for the minority group of the school.
6. Cliques. Every school has them. In most cases, the cliques are based on race. There is no outright exclusion from a group because of the colour of ones skin, but it is very difficult to fit into a majority white group as a Black teenager.
7. Lgbtq+. A very touchy subject at this school specifically because it is a catholic school. So we found that people were leaving the school because of some staffs' remarks toward this.
8. Racism. Unfortunately, some (white) teachers do make use of racial slurs and nothing is done about it. Since they get away with it, they continue to say it.
Even with so many obstacles, don't let this deter you from achieving your goals- whatever they may be. Go bag that distinction, that badge, that pass.

The school itself is great - by that I mean the campus. What's inside of the school, however, is a different story. Aside from the ''obvious'' social flaws as mentioned by someone else, there are more practical reasons for my saying:
1. The cultural and sports activities are given little to no recognition let alone funding from the school.
2. When a girl isn't doing well in a subject, she is shamed instead of helped. Most girls have private tutors - over and above the expensive tuition.
3. The major productions/plays are not given a budget - students and teachers must fund the play from their own pockets.
4. There is a choir, after being at the school for years, I didn't even know that there was.
5. In a class of 20-25, there isn't much one-on-one attention given to students.
6. Like any school, there are cliques. It's an unspoken rule to stay in your lane (race).
If you're someone who goes to school purely for the education, then I'm happy to inform you that this is the perfect school for you. But if you'd like a more vibrant High School experience wherein you'll make life-lasting friendships and memories that you'll carry into adulthood...
it was honestly an open space in which I could grow, develop and learn. The school has its obvious flaws regarding social issues but I value how it guided me and provided resources and quality education.
The school is down right racist and they almost refuse to believe that. Literally modern day segregation they never fail to make it more obvious that they disregard the rights of any person of Color. Multiple racial slurs including the N-word have been said by white pupils and teachers alike and nothing has been done. They care more about the number of earrings than actual racism. It’s alarming
honestly a horrible high school experience overall
this school is nothing short of a hellhouse. completely opposing to their religious grounding which by the way is thrown in your face. bullying in this school is off the charts - the girls here speak of a sisterhood yet are completely nasty to one another. spare your child because brescia house is not for the faint hearted nevermind the expensive tuition. the school clearly holds academics over sports & mental health as well.
Horrible horrible school. They shove religion down your throat and say that they tolerate kids that aren't catholic. I had a teacher tell me I was Satan's child and that I was going to hell for not doing my homework. A lot of bullying in the school too.
Brescia House School is an academics and sport focused school that teaches girls to develop into smart young women and teach them proper manners and etiquette on how to treat people in the real world. The education is very good but the workflow is very fast and high tech.
