Ever since the new principal of BHS came the school has been nothing but bad and drugs have been on the rise with the pass rate decreasing every month. This principal is even firing such good teachers to hire teachers with no experience at all. I feel as a learner that this school is going to shambles we need a better principal whose willing to put in the work to improve the school. He has not only ruined it but when ever we complain about unfair treatment and bad teaching we are thrown under the mat. That principal doesnt care about the learners and only care about his title. I have seen no improvement and even top students are getting lower marks. The average for the whole of grade 10 for maths hasnt been over 40% and the school has done nothing at all to help us improve. There are such amazing teachers at this school yet the principal decides to fire them and they leave hiring teachers who do not care, they abuse learners and treat us unfairly and are only
there to receive a paycheck. I am utterly dissapointed in what this school has become its a shame because this school was one of the best. As i write i oblique that serious action be taken for the benefit of the learners and the school. Thank you.
Come if you want a burning hatred for institutions
If you asked me what was wrong with this school, I'd ask you if you wanted it in alphabetical or chronological order.
Not all of the teachers are bad but it is stil concerning that of the staff that the school boasts, I've only met around six that took the mental health of the student and their personal life into consideration.
This school only really cares for the status and paychecks, and doesn't care for the students that it sacrifices to get there. Most of the teachers are condescending, entirely rude and sometimes go to the extent of deliberately ignoring the student or outwardly remarking on them. Favoritism is entirely evident and should your child not confirm to what this school perceives as adequate, say goodbye to a good high school experiences.
First year in Grade 8, I spent E-Learning being shown videos on conspiracy theories and eventually got told that my homosexuality was strange, that teacher is still around, if you know, you know. I had my beliefs belittled by one Mrs. Van De Venter, to whom many of the grade 12s can attest was reported multiple times. Some of her remarks were racial stereotyping. Ms. Venter was borderline racist and seemed to take good joy in belittling students and punishing others based on a select few.
I've had an experience where a friend had an emotional breakdown because of a particular art teacher that was forced to hand by the Vice Principle, one Greef, because her art PAT was not "to code" and that "Boksburg High has not and will never allow art exhibit works" despite her sister and a former teacher having alliowed it. To the same, that very teacher, upon being queried about the horrible formatting on the Exam Timetable, simply told me that I should read the durations in the most condescending voice.
Students are given hell over the simplest of things and double standards wreak havoc. Imagine being told to take your hands out of your pockets in extremely cold weather by a teacher who has her hands ankle deep in her own pockets.
The amount of students that I have witnessed either being hospitalized, being diagnosed with some form of psychiatric disorder or exhibiting maladaptive coping techniques is a sure sign of some underlying condition and the conditions at this school do not help. Teachers do note take the student's personal lives into consideration. I don't mean clubbing and drinking as they seem to think we do, but the example of some students having other, more prominent priorities such as sick parents, having to take care of younger siblings.
Further examples are made when students are admonished for not having access to facilities such as WiFi and thus cannot access other aspects of the school such as Google Classroom and are then admonished for that. They still then complain of our inability to take school seriously but we, and our individual circumstances, are not taken seriously either.
This is only a small list but I do not recommend this school until it gets that status to fruition by proper methods and not blatant incompetency.
I Rate this school with 1 star simply because of its underground racist culture towards black male teachers who've always been labelled with sexual harassment claims that are pure speculation and cannot be proven, this school hires black teachers as a front so black parents who are a majority can bring their kids! The department of education should investigate this schools code of conduct and also interview learners and former black male teachers to prove my point!
I thought so highly of this school everything is about the culture of the school and the schools imagine not focusing on building the kids self esteem , the racism is on another level, if you love your child protect him/her from such environment
Mrs Stopford is a new teacher , but she has told lies to many parents of her mistakes. She has made it clear that she does not want to teach my child and others many times. Mrs Erasmus continuously lies to other teachers and parents , as well as accused my son of taking drugs , my son took a drug test and came out negative and found something else to lie about. Ms Venter she is always making up lies about my son not wearing a LanYard.( My son has never left the house without one). These teachers abuse their power and blame learners for no reason at all. Please address this , if not i will personally come to the school. ( Ps i only rated it like this that more people can see it )
I had my first term in this high school and i already have so much to say...
Firstly i would like to clarify that this school indeed is an amazing place to learn, the teachers a kind(most of them at least) and strive to help you achieve good marks.
But.
This school's racism is disgusting.
I am a black learner and yesterday i was asked to CUT MY AFRO! Because it was apparently TOO BIG.
Which i certainly do not understand, as i had tied my hair into two but one of the teachers told me IT WAS NOT ALLOWED!
What exactly am i supposed to do? I am definitely not going to cut my hair.
Us kids with afros have to measure our hair with our pointing finger, and if it's longer than that, YOU MUST CUT IT, how unfair is that!?
The kids with straighter hair are allowed to have their hair as long as they want it to be!
To sum it all up:
This school is a bittersweet place to learn.
•The learners are so sweet!
•The school is very clean
•The classes are amazing.
•The school is also very racist.
Boksburg High school is a good school with some very horrible teachers. The racism in the school is astronomical. The only department I can say really does work hard to to make sure their students thrive is the English and Afrikaans department. Not saying that there is not problematic teachers in those departments but they do help their students alot. I wouldn't hope anyone would bring their child to this school as their first choice because I am 100% sure there is a better school out there.
Besides teachers bullying us and hurting our feelings the school is great. A lot of teachers especially maths teachers enjoy working with the students and some teachers even stay after school for no reason either than to help the students if they struggle with a topic, sadly I can't say the same about other teachers although I've noticed that different subject teachers act differently, the Afrikaans teachers do make fun of the students a lot and it does make the lesson more interesting but to a point it just gets sad. The English teachers are extremely intelligent and a lot of them have great personalities which make the lesson way more exciting to me personally (all I've said above only applies to the teachers I've gotten it might not be the same for others)
Boksburg high school takes pride in its academics.
The school boasts a wide range of sport and cultural activities.
The staff(teachers, ground staff, security and office personal)are well mannered and take their jobs seriously.
I am a Grade 11 pupil in Boksburg High School.
I give this high school a very high rating because even though it is a government (or model c?)school, the academic and sport standards are very high.
It is very well managed and our school days and events run very smoothly.
I blame that on the discipline that is implemented throughout the school, however I will not give it a 5/5 star rating because there are some issues like:
DRUGS!! are very easily accessible being that the school is located just next to a taxi rank, there are rules in place for this such as the "no pen cap rule" however the drug/substance use issue is on going.
The use of drugs and substances are not always out of the blue and just because they're teenagers, hundreds of kids in the school are suffering from trauma and mental illnesses whether it stems from their home environment or other personal issues, therefore I think there is a massive need for therapy, programes, assemblies etc discussing this matter.
It is crucial in a school to protect the children attending it everyday so there should be more "rules" regarding these issues.
Most teachers at the school have been there many years and are very well qualified, however there is only now starting to be a more diverse group of teachers.
There is very strict rules for dress and hair, this may seem great for parents who are wanting to keep their kids disciplined, however these rules can become tedious for parents for example parents being called in for tailored pants and the school shaving the heads of boys who have the wrong hair cut, it can all be just a bit dramatic, their is also a big problem regarding the girls of colour and their hair styles, the list of rules for black/coloured girls are not inclusive AT ALL!
I say this with no bias however because I still do love my school.
Boksburg high has sent alot of children to universities and colleges on scholarships for academics and sports.
They have a wide range of sports including girls soccer and hockey.
As well as a first aid course and an interact program.
They have a tuck shop but no free eating plans for those in need.
The cleanliness is very high and so is security and safety.
We also work on a "house" system, separating all of the learners imto 4 houses where we compete and have alot of cultural events.
We participate in many schooling events and often win because of the standards set at boksburg high and therefore I highly recommend this school.
A student's experience at Boksburg high school can go either way.
If he/she chooses to cooperate then good things will come their way. There won't be any fights with teachers, visits to the office will be less frequent and with a little effort(Depending on intelligence) distinctions can be achieved.
The design of the school reminds me of Hogwarts(At night while fetching reports).
But
The rules are
ridiculous.Period.
Boys have to wear pants that cover up to their last shoelace.Pants can't be tapered(they should ATLEAST try to make an exception)and fades are not allowed-How is that going to affect my academic performance?
All races have different hair types therefore different measures need to be taken.
I understand that all these rules help us become respectful people...but In the end we can't complain because the education is great, not perfect, but great
Why not perfect? Just like how students are different teachers are as well.Honestly it depends on luck on which teacher one gets. Some teachers are fresh out of varsity and are still Learning--This becomes a disadvantage for learners with Deep questions that need professional answers.
CCTV's are intalled(Bullies beware)
BHS can give one the ability to change the world...ONLY ENROLL IN THE SCHOOL IF YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES
Boksburg high school, is a school for those who want a future. BHS teaches every pupil the importance of working for what He/she deserve and wants. The teachers are excellent at their jobs, even their ways of teaching. BHS is not only neat and tidy it is also a great environment for students to learn .i personally feel that BHS is the best school in SA.Alot of parents and fellow pupils will agree.
Well the school is really nice and all its just the teachers are the problem.
They full of themselves and try to fit in with the learners.
The school has all these unnecessary rules that sometime don't even relate to school.
Like the kids were asked if they wear the correct underwear, that's not the schools business.
The way they talk to the kids is also a problem
I would like y'all to look into this issue and stop being full of yourselves.
There uu should also act a certain way and can't express yourself or be yourself.
Some kids really feel like they in a prison and not at a school.
This school is so unnecessary.
They even have a problem when you shoe laces are tied a certain way.
They try to mAke you someone else.
Nd I'm against that.
I'm a new grade 11 in that school I came in late due to enrollment and I also recently relocated, when I got to boksburg high it felt like I've been there for years pupils talked to me like they knew me.i wish I went to this school sooner they are so friendly.i love this school.
